Varda

Before joining Varda for pharmaceuticals, understand how government flight work fits the near-term business.

The company

Will Bruey and Delian Asparouhov founded Varda to develop orbital manufacturing and reentry infrastructure. It announced a $251 million Series D on September 30, 2026. Company · Financing

What deserves attention

Bruey told Reuters that about 70% of Varda's 2027 payload customer base is government-related. He expected that mix to reverse toward pharmaceuticals by 2032 and placed a first human clinical milestone around the turn of the decade. These are management's expectations; the customer mix is not a revenue breakdown. Reuters interview

The recruiting read

Our read: candidates face two connected career propositions, with different milestones. Flight engineers can contribute to reentry missions while pharmaceutical researchers work toward a longer-horizon outcome.

The distinction appears in the openings: space flight software alongside biologics formulation research. The latter explicitly includes protein stability, analytical characterization, and freeze-drying work. Scientists with those methods have a more pointed entry story than a general interest in space.

Before you commit

Ask which budget and customer milestone your team serves, and what changes if pharmaceutical commercialization takes longer. A successful reentry and a clinically useful formulation are separate achievements. Your role should make clear which one you are responsible for advancing.
